Hyundai Somerset West Supports Helderberg Hospice Through Mobility and Fundraising
For patients receiving care from Helderberg Hospice, access to medical services extends beyond clinical treatment. Reliable transportation plays a vital role in ensuring patients can attend appointments, maintain continuity of care and preserve their dignity while navigating serious illness.
Helderberg Hospice, supported 52 full-time staff members and 160 volunteers, provides palliative care to patients and families affected life-threatening illnesses, including cancer, organ failure and HIV/AIDS. The organisation focuses on improving quality of life while providing compassionate support to patients and their loved ones during challenging circumstances.
Recognising the importance of accessible healthcare, Wolf Kreft, Dealer Principal of Hyundai Somerset West, has established a longstanding relationship with Helderberg Hospice, using the dealership’s vehicles and resources to help meet the organisation’s transportation needs.
“While our core business is selling cars, we are equally cognizant that mobility should be about helping people access the care they need, with dignity and compassion. If we can make a difficult day a little easier for a patient and their family, then we are doing something that truly matters,” said Kreft.
Hyundai Somerset West has made several vehicles available to transport patients to and from medical facilities at no cost to them. The fleet includes the Hyundai STARIA, EXTER, H100 and GRAND i10, helping reduce the financial and logistical pressures associated with accessing essential medical care.
“A ride to the doctor in a reliable vehicle can make a difference in the life of a critically ill patient. For patients facing serious illness, it can mean getting the care they need without the added worry of transport costs,” Kreft added.
Beyond Mobility: Supporting Hospice Fundraising
The dealership’s commitment extends beyond providing transportation. Hyundai Somerset West also supports fundraising initiatives that help sustain Helderberg Hospice’s palliative care services.
Among the events supported are Celebration of Life, Carols Candlelight and Open Gardens. In 2025, Kreft also supported the organisation’s cycling team as they participated in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, raising funds in celebration of the hospice’s 40th anniversary.
Robert de Wet, CEO of Helderberg Hospice, has publicly expressed his appreciation for Kreft’s contribution to the organisation’s fundraising efforts and ongoing work.
“We are deeply grateful to Wolf and Hyundai Somerset West for helping make essential journeys possible for our patients. Their support helps us provide care with dignity, compassion and reassurance when patients and families need it most.”
A Longstanding Commitment to the Automotive Industry
Kreft’s community involvement complements his 25-year career at Hyundai Automotive South Africa. After spending nine years as a Finance and Insurance Manager, he transitioned into dealership leadership, helping establish Hyundai’s presence in Somerset West and Stellenbosch.
Through its continued partnership with Helderberg Hospice, Hyundai Somerset West demonstrates how automotive businesses can contribute meaningfully to their communities. By combining practical mobility solutions with fundraising support, the dealership helps ensure that patients facing serious illness can access essential care with greater dignity, comfort and peace of mind.
