PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT celebrates the 40th anniversary of the 205 T16’s double victory in the 1985 and 1986 World Rally Championships, an icon of French automotive history.

PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT reinvents the myth for the electric age, transforming a legend into a unique and futuristic experience that delivers exceptional driving pleasure. An instantly recognisable object, instinctively desirable and designed to generate powerful emotions.

Extremely advanced and developed in collaboration with PEUGEOT SPORT, PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT combines a ferocious stance, radical and avant-garde elegance, extraordinary performance (816 hp, 0-300 km/h in 16 seconds), and cutting-edge technologies that heighten the senses and stir the driver’s instincts.

PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT introduces the PEUGEOT Feline Future design codes, offering the ultimate vision of the next-generation PEUGEOT E-208 through its lighting signature and the new generation of i-Cockpit® integrating Hypersquare®.

E-T16 CONCEPT creates its own “Hyperhatch” segment, unveiling the most powerful PEUGEOT in history—a car rivalled only the 208 T16 Pikes Peak prototype, which set a record at the famous American hill climb in 2013.

EXTREME PERFORMANCE AND DRIVING PLEASURE, SIGNED PEUGEOT SPORT

E-T16 CONCEPT opens a new chapter in PEUGEOT’s rich sporting heritage, pushing performance further than ever before while remaining true to the same objective: generating maximum emotion and delivering exceptional driving pleasure.

The most powerful PEUGEOT ever built

E-T16 CONCEPT’s three electric motors – one mounted at the front and two at the rear – deliver a combined output of 816 hp. This stratospheric figure results in an exceptional power-to-weight ratio – particularly for a modern, road-legal car – of less than 2 kg per horsepower.

Cutting-edge technology to heighten the senses

PEUGEOT Sport has infused E-T16 CONCEPT with the very best of its expertise and technology. Combined with the Torque Vectoring system, the three-motor electric powertrain distributes torque in real time, both between the two rear wheels and between the front and rear axles, according to grip conditions. Three driving modes are available, adjusting power delivery, torque distribution between the two axles and suspension settings, including a Track mode for unrestricted extreme driving. A fourth mode can be fully customised the driver.

When pushing the car to its limits, E-T16 CONCEPT can rely on its four 380 mm disc brakes, its vertically mounted hydraulic handbrake—just like on rally cars—and its oversized Michelin® tyres (275 mm wide at the front and 315 mm at the rear).

Inspired the steering wheel of the PEUGEOT 9X8 competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Hypersquare® steering control of E-T16 CONCEPT demonstrates the adaptability of this new steer wire technology, here developed in a performance-focused configuration. For the first time, the Hypersquare® integrates a configurable central display showing essential information such as speed and lap timing according to driving conditions. The outstanding ergonomics of Hypersquare®, allowing access to key functions with a simple finger movement, are particularly valuable in sporty driving situations. Combined with the specially calibrated steer--wire system, Hypersquare® also delivers exceptional precision and agility.

Extraordinary performance

Thanks to its 816 hp, exceptional power-to-weight ratio, and a performance-focused drivetrain, E-T16 CONCEPT delivers breathtaking acceleration: 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in a staggering 2.5 seconds, while 0 to 300 km/h takes just 16 seconds.

PEUGEOT Sport engineers ensured that these exceptional performances remain sustainable. Particular attention was paid to battery cooling to prevent derating, which reduces power output to avoid overheating. Drawing on motorsport experience, battery thermal management has been optimised and “Side Cooling” technology introduced, derived from racing, which cools battery cells through their side walls rather than through their base as is the case with conventional systems.

The result is equally extraordinary: E-T16 CONCEPT can complete three laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife—more than 60 km—in Performance mode, with no power limitation!

Wild nature, civilised for everyday use

Despite its beastly appearance and extreme specifications, E-T16 CONCEPT remains easy to live with every day. Its 800V architecture combined with a 85-kWh battery ensures optimised EV performance, delivering up to 400 km of WLTP combined-cycle range and charging from 10% to 80% in under 15 minutes.

THE FRENCH FLAIR OF PEUGEOT FELINE FUTURE DESIGN: A BEASTLY, RADICAL AND FUTURISTIC STYLE

In design terms, PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT proudly embraces its heritage, with bold references to the legendary 205 T16, while simultaneously announcing the future through the PEUGEOT Feline Future design language that will debut on the next PEUGEOT E-208.

Matthias HOSSANN, PEUGEOT Design Director says;

“E-T16 CONCEPT reinterprets the lines of the future PEUGEOT E-208, pushing every proportion to the extreme. A radical design that celebrates our heritage and transforms power and sportiness into a true design language.”

A radically expressive exterior design

PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT offers the ultimate vision of the future E-208. The most significant exterior feature is a completely new interpretation of PEUGEOT’s iconic three-claw light signature, front and rear. Reimagined with a horizontal treatment, the swiping three claws feature three long, slim illuminated bars framing an illuminated PEUGEOT emblem, powerfully reasserting PEUGEOT’s identity with strength, elegance and modernity, while emphasising the car’s planted stance on the road.

With boldness and courage, PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT pushes the boundaries of performance and design. Entirely focused on performance, this new concept pushes the boundaries even further, harnessing today’s expertise and technologies.

E-T16 CONCEPT asserts its unique, athletic and muscular presence: pronounced wheel arches, an aggressively sculpted bonnet featuring two large air outlets, a front bumper with three oversized cooling intakes, air extractors behind the front wheels, and a rear underbody extractor incorporating a twin diffuser with two adjustable aero blades to generate additional downforce, topped a large “cat-ear” rear wing—a distinctive PEUGEOT signature.

Enthusiasts will appreciate several more sophisticated nods to the legendary 205 T16: the Winchester Matte Grey body colour, closely matching the original grey; silver microblasted wheels with body-coloured inserts; and the spectacular backlit red line running around the entire car, referencing the red pinstripe of the 205 T16.

PEUGEOT designers remained faithful to the original spirit. The air intake located ahead of the rear wheel on the 205 T16, once used to feed the combustion engine, now houses the charging port and door-opening mechanism. Above it, the floating C-pillar concept has been retained and optimised, now allowing the aerodynamic airflow to pass freely towards the rear.

PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT puts on a show: just like the 205 T16, its entire rear body section tilts open to reveal the mechanical components beneath. Here, there is no turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but instead two electric motors and suspension components proudly on display, allowing for quick adjustments (see below).

An ultra-sporty and digital interior design

The cabin of PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT provides a glimpse of the future E-208 interior within an ultra-sporty and exclusive environment.

E-T16 CONCEPT introduces the next generation of PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, fully digital and integrating Hypersquare®, while retaining the same priority: delivering exceptional ergonomics dedicated to driving pleasure.

The large, ultra-slim 21-inch panoramic HD display, gently curved in the spirit of those found in PEUGEOT 3008 and 5008, is ideally positioned within the driver’s line of sight. Combining the head-up instrument display and central touchscreen, it sits just above Hypersquare®, the centrepiece of the new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, demonstrating its ability to adapt to an ultra-sporty vehicle. E-T16 CONCEPT’s Hypersquare® remains faithful to the version that will equip the future E-208, except for the central display, which here occupies the space normally reserved for the airbag—rendered unnecessary the adoption of four-point safety harnesses.

True to PEUGEOT’s interior design philosophy—driver-focused yet open on the passenger side—the cabin has been tailored to the ultra-sporty character of E-T16 CONCEPT. Carbon fibre, anodised aluminium, technical mesh… from the pedals to the overhead console, the materials used throughout the cabin showcase the ultimate technical sophistication of E-T16 CONCEPT.

The spectacular bucket seats combine design and comfort, providing ideal support even in the most extreme driving conditions. Moulded into a carbon-fibre shell elegantly connected to the centre console, they hold the occupants’ hips firmly in place and feature impressive lateral support at shoulder level.

The finish of the bucket seats reflects the ultra-exclusive, avant-garde character of E-T16 CONCEPT. They are upholstered in technical woven fabric and innovative PELINOVA® recycled leather (see below).

The bucket seats are further enhanced a vertical red stripe extending from the seat cushion to the headrest. On the backrest, the stripe takes the form of a Plexiglas element, echoing the red line encircling the bodywork. This striking feature does not compromise comfort in any way, as the Plexiglas element does not come into contact with the occupant’s body.

An iconic colour of PEUGEOT GTi models, red takes centre stage in E-T16 CONCEPT, the Brand’s new sporting flagship. The headliner, crafted from red technical mesh fading to black, is a nod to the red carpeting of the new E-208 GTi, creating a genuine “WOW” effect upon entering the cabin.

Red also features on the tubular roll cage, which is dramatically revealed when the entire rear section of E-T16 CONCEPT tilts open. The full technical sophistication of E-T16 CONCEPT is then displayed on a carbon-fibre platform: chassis components, shock absorbers and the rear electric motors developed PEUGEOT Sport… not forgetting a storage compartment capable, for example, of accommodating two helmets.

SUSTAINABLE PERFORMANCE AS THE NEW STANDARD

PEUGEOT will never stop pursuing the ultimate driving pleasure. E-T16 CONCEPT demonstrates that electrification makes responsible and sustainable hyper-performance possible. Extreme, zero-emission driving pleasure that defines the standards of tomorrow.

Innovative and responsible solutions

The inner sections of the E-T16 CONCEPT bucket seats feature innovative PELINOVA® leather made from recycled offcuts from the leather goods industry—untanned animal leather that would otherwise typically go unused. This new material offers all the elegance, comfort and sensory qualities—smell, touch and more—of genuine leather, with a reduced environmental impact.

The Lithium Nickel Manganese batteries used in E-T16 CONCEPT offer very high energy density, enabling them to store maximum energy within a compact space and at a controlled weight, helping to optimise efficiency.

An iconic element of PEUGEOT driving pleasure for nearly 15 years, the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® continues to evolve while standing the test of time. E-T16 CONCEPT previews an entirely new generation of PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, taking driving pleasure to an even higher level thanks to Hypersquare® and steer--wire technology.
