Ahead of the 99th Comrades Marathon on 14 June 2026, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is excited to continue its long-standing partnership and commitment to one of the country’s most iconic sporting events. As a trusted mobility partner, Toyota plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless execution of the race while connecting with millions of South Africans who gather in support of “The Ultimate Human Race.”

As part of its 2026 involvement, Toyota has provided a fleet of vehicles to support race operations, logistics and athlete mobility. Central to this fleet are 14 locally manufactured Toyota Hilux models, three Toyota Quantum buses, two Toyota Urban Cruisers and two Starlet Cross models. These vehicles underscore Toyota’s commitment to local production and its contribution to the South African economy. Furthermore, the fleet demonstrates Toyota’s diverse and versatile vehicle line-up, suited to both operational demands and everyday mobility.

Commenting on the partnership, Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager Marketing Communications at Toyota South Africa Motors said, “The Comrades Marathon represents the very best of human endurance and determination, values that are deeply aligned with the Toyota brand. Our involvement in the event aligns with our philosophy of providing mobility solutions that move people both physically and emotionally while supporting communities that embody resilience, unity and human spirit. Through our locally built vehicles and broader mobility support, we are proud to play a role in enabling this iconic event.”

At the forefront of the fleet, two new generation Toyota Hilux vehicles will take on the prestigious role of official lead vehicles for the demanding route between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Adding to the excitement, Toyota will give away a brand-new locally produced Corolla Cross XR to one lucky participant, reinforcing the brand’s recognition of excellence and perseverance. The winner will be announced during a live broadcast moments after the race.

In celebration of the Comrades spirit, Toyota also introduced a new edition of the official Toyota Comrades technical cap, a cherished symbol among runners representing perseverance, achievement and pride. The Toyota Comrades cap has become an iconic symbol of the race and this year’s edition reflects both Toyota’s heritage and its continued innovation. Aligned to the Comrades theme of Ska Fela Moya – Don’t Give Up, the cap is more than just a piece of merchandise as it represents every runner’s journey and achievement.

“Toyota has been a valued and long-standing partner of the Comrades Marathon, consistently enhancing the race experience for runners and supporters alike. Their continued support plays an important role in the success of the event and contributes meaningfully to the broader Comrades community,” said Alain Dalais, General Manager of the Comrades Marathon Association.

2026 marks 22 years of Toyota’s enduring partnership with the Comrades community. In 2025, ultra-marathon champion and Comrades winner Gerda Steyn was announced as a Global Team Toyota Athlete. This year, she returns to the race for the first time as part of the global Toyota family to defend her title.

“We wish Gerda and every runner on the start line strength, resilience and an unforgettable race. May the spirit of Comrades carry you every step of the way,” concluded Lorgat.

Through its continued involvement, Toyota remains dedicated to supporting South African sport, promoting community engagement and delivering mobility that enables extraordinary achievements.
