GQEBERHA – ISUZU Motors South Africa is set to unveil the latest addition to the X-RIDER series, the all-new D-MAX X-RIDER, a continuation of the highly acclaimed model that captured the hearts of South African customers since its debut in 2016.
Derived from the cutting-edge seventh-generation D-MAX range, manufactured at ISUZU’s Struandale plant in Gqeberha, the fresh X-RIDER maintains the distinctive traits, daring design, and unique features that have made it a cherished choice among pickup enthusiasts in South Africa.
Initially introduced as a limited-edition special-value model in 2016, the X-RIDER swiftly gained popularity, securing a permanent spot in the standard lineup a year later. Renowned for its distinctive design elements and premium features, the all-new X-RIDER builds on this legacy, offering an elevated experience.
“The new D-MAX X-RIDER combines style, image, and capability, making it an ideal choice for discerning customers seeking something extraordinary,” says Kevin Fouche, Department Executive: Product Planning and Programme Management at ISUZU Motors South Africa. “While the X-RIDER is sure to turn heads, we’ve ensured it provides excellent value to our customers. It is based on the mid-range 1.9 Ddi LS models, available with both manual and automatic transmissions in 4×2 form, and a 4×4 automatic for adventurous off-road enthusiasts.”
Striking Exterior Features
The D-MAX X-RIDER boasts a captivating exterior designed to appeal to customers looking for a departure from the ordinary. Its assertive character is evident from the front, highlighted by the sleek black gloss grille adorned with bold red ‘ISUZU’ lettering, continuing the distinctive theme from the original X-RIDER model.
X-RIDER badges on the front doors and tailgate emphasize its exclusive status, complemented by a black ISUZU tailgate decal. LED headlamps, fog lamps, and taillamps contribute to the upscale appearance while ensuring optimal visibility day or night.
Stylish black accents on the door handles, B-pillars, side-mirror covers, tailgate handle, and curved sports bar behind the cab accentuate the X-RIDER’s dynamic aesthetics. Dark grey roof rails not only enhance the overall silhouette but also provide practicality for roof racks if needed.
The vehicle sits on sophisticated 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with red ‘ISUZU’ lettering on black center caps, adding a stylish touch to its rugged stance. A towbar with a 2.1-ton tow rating comes standard.
The D-MAX X-RIDER is available in four striking colors: Splash White, Mercury Silver (from April 2024), Red Spinel, and Islay Gray.
The cabin of the all-new D-MAX X-RIDER features subtle red accents, emphasizing its unique personality. Sporty flair is added to the leather seats with red contrast stitching and embroidered red ‘X’ logos on the headrests. PVC leather door trims with red stitching contribute to the bold interior.
A striking red divider with the ‘X’ logo between the glove compartment and dashboard enhances the dynamic ambiance, complemented by a leather-wrapped, red-stitched steering wheel featuring a red ISUZU badge. Additional red accents, such as elements in the door materials, red stitching on the gearshift boot, and the park-brake sheath, contribute to a cohesive design that underscores the vehicle’s distinctiveness.
Setting it Apart: Performance
The D-MAX X-RIDER is powered by the fuel-efficient 1.9-litre Ddi engine, a cornerstone of the seventh-generation D-MAX model. This intercooled turbodiesel engine, recognized for its remarkable fuel economy, delivers 110 kW of power at 3,600 r/min and peak torque of 350 Nm from 1,800 to 2,600 r/min.
The engine is paired with two transmission options: a precise six-speed manual and a finely-tuned six-speed automatic. The 4×2 version offers both manual and automatic transmissions, while the 4×4 model comes standard with the six-speed automatic.
The X-RIDER maintains the high standards of the D-MAX range, offering a maximum wading depth of 800 mm, improved underbody protection, enhanced aerodynamics, and a quick-engaging shift-on-the-fly 4×4 drive system for the 4×4 model.
The X-RIDER includes a comprehensive set of standard safety features, such as airbags for the driver and front passenger, front side airbags, curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag. Active safety features include ABS brakes, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BAS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Trailer Sway Control.
The X-RIDER range consists of three models, all in LS trim grade and available only in double-cab configuration. The 1.9 Ddi D/Cab HR X-RIDER LS features a six-speed manual transmission, while the HR X-RIDER LS AT and 4×4 X-RIDER LS AT come equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission.
Standard features across all models include cruise control, a seven-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a six-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi compatibility, rear park assist, and a rear-view camera.
The D-MAX X-RIDER maintains its focus on customers seeking a double cab with distinctive looks, refined features, safety, and reliability. Balancing style and accessibility, the X-RIDER sets a new standard in the pickup segment.
The development of the all-new D-MAX X-RIDER was part of ISUZU’s substantial R1.2-billion investment in the company’s Struandale operations to produce the seventh-generation D-MAX range.
