Esapekka Lappi Extends Hyundai Motorsport Deal for 2024 World Rally Championship
Hyundai Motorsport has secured the services of Esapekka Lappi for the upcoming 2024 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season, aiming for a third FIA WRC manufacturers’ title.
Following a successful inaugural season, both Lappi and Hyundai Motorsport expressed mutual interest in continuing their collaboration, with Lappi and co-driver Janne Ferm committing to a part-time campaign. The duo will support teammates Thierry Neuville/Martijn Wydaeghe and Ott Tänak/Martin Järveoja in their pursuit of FIA WRC titles.
Lappi quickly adapted to the Hyundai i20 N Rally1 Hybrid, showcasing his speed and podium contention from the outset at Rally México. Notable achievements include a runner-up finish at Rally Italia Sardegna and three third-place finishes in Croatia, Portugal, and Estonia. Lappi’s involvement in the development of the Hyundai i20 N Rally1 Hybrid remains a significant aspect of his role for the upcoming season.
While Hyundai Motorsport is still finalizing its complete 2024 driver lineup, president Sean Kim expressed confidence in the team’s talented crews. Team principal Cyril Abiteboul highlighted Lappi’s role in supporting lead drivers and contributing to car development. Lappi, thrilled to continue with Hyundai Motorsport, expressed his determination to succeed and contribute to the team’s victories in the 2024 WRC season.
