Chery’s breath-taking comeback and the success of the Tiggo 4 Pro prompted the manufacturer to bring in the Tiggo 8 Pro much sooner than anticipated. It is the flagship model for this Chinese brand and the most awarded vehicle in their line-up. There are currently two models in the range, both offering industry-leading levels of luxury and technology.

The dynamic design of the Tiggo 8 Pro is attributed to the fact that Chery had some of the world’s best designers style this vehicle. From the onset, you will notice its prowess. The Tiggo has a large galaxy-style grille and xenon headlights with integrated turning signals and dynamic flow direction. Eighteen-inch superior quality alloys add to its stance and elegance. Chery thought of everything in terms of practicality and have even added loadbearing roof racks that can hold up to 80 kg. Sitting with a wheelbase of 2 711 mm, the Tiggo 8 Pro ensures plenty of room and comfort for all its passengers.
Step inside
On entry, you are welcomed by the Tiggo’s luxuriously large cabin and aircraft style cockpit, equipped with various touch screens and easy-to-reach controls. High-quality material and soft-touch plastics throughout the cabin add to its sophistication. Brown, diamond-patterned leather seats hold you snug and give you a sense of safety when cruising. A standard feature on both models is electrically adjustable front seats for height, tilt and lumber support.
The driver is further spoiled with a choice of interesting graphics on the digital dashboard, depending on the diving mode. The Tiggo 8 Pro is equipped with a 360-degree around-view monitor, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, two high-definition TFT displays and dual-zone climate control with pharmaceutical grade N95 air filtration that always ensures fresh air circulates the cabin.
In-car entertainment includes Apple Car Play, Android Auto, three USB ports and a built-in wireless charging station in the centre console – not to mention the ambient lighting that changes colour to the rhythm of your favourite music. The leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel allows you to control the in-car entertainment, colour screens, Bluetooth phone, cruise control – and our favourite – the advanced voice control system (AVCS). The AVCS never fails to impress. At the touch of a single button, the driver can use the voice command to control features like the electric windows, panoramic sunroof, climate control, music and much more.

The cabin is designed for comfort for all its passengers, with the second-row seats capable of adjusting to increase legroom for those who need to stretch or give the third-row passengers a bit of legroom. Both rows can also be folded flat to increase the boot storage space to 900 litres and 1 900 litres respectively.
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is not short on safety and boasts the leading guard-ring type six airbags system, providing comprehensive and thoughtful protection. Other standard safety features and driver aids include blind spot detection, park distance control, 360-degree automatic vehicle monitoring, automatic parking brake, adaptive cruise control and automatic sensing tail door.
Under the bonnet
The Tiggo 8 Pro is powered by a 1,6-litre turbo-charged petrol engine, which sounds small for such a large vehicle, but it can easily produce 145 kW at 5 500 rpm and 290 Nm of torque. Chery claims that the Tiggo 8 Pro can reach 100 km per hour from standstill in 8,9 seconds, which is not bad for a vehicle of this size.
Power is transferred effortlessly to the front wheels thanks to the dual clutch, smooth-shifting, seven-speed automatic gearbox. Thanks to its electronic power steering, the Tiggo 8 Pro can handle control at both low and high speeds, contributing to increased fuel efficiency when compared with hydraulic power systems.
